Clause Form Conversions for Boolean Circuits

چکیده
Boolean circuits are well established as a data structure for building propositional encodings of problems in preparation for satisfiability solving. The standard method for converting Boolean circuits to clause form (naming every vertex) has a number of shortcomings In this paper we give a projection of several well-known clause form conversions to a simplified Boolean circuit. We introduce a new conversion which we show is equivalent to that of Boy de la Tour in certain circumstances and is hence optimal in the number of clauses that it produces. We extend the algorithm to cover reduced Boolean circuits, a data structure used by the model checker NuSMV. We present experimental results for this and other conversion procedures on BMC problems demonstrating its superiority, and conclude that the CNF conversion plays a significant role in reducing the overall solving time.

Translating propositional extended conjunctions of Horn clauses into Boolean circuits
Horn is a logic programming language which extends usual Horn clauses by adding intuitionistic implication in goals and clause bodies. This extension can be seen as a form of structuring programs in logic programming. We are interested in finding correct and efficient translations from Horn⊃ programs into some representation type that, preserving the signature, allow us suitable implementations...
متن کاملGoals in the Propositional Horn Language Are Monotone Boolean Circuits
Horn⊃ is a logic programming language which extends usual Horn clauses by adding intuitionistic implication in goals and clause bodies. This extension can be seen as a form of structuring programs in logic programming. Restricted to the propositional setting of this language, we prove that any goal in Horn⊃ can be translated into a monotone Boolean circuit which is linear in the size of the goal.

Boolean satisfiability (SAT) and its extensions are becoming a core technology for the analysis of systems. The SAT-based approach divides into three steps: encoding, preprocessing, and search. It is often argued that by encoding arbitrary Boolean formulas in conjunctive normal form (CNF), structural properties of the original problem are not reflected in the CNF. This should result in the fact...
متن کاملExplaining Propagators for s-DNNF Circuits
Smooth decomposable negation normal form (s-DNNF) circuits are a compact form of representing many Boolean functions, that permit linear time satisfiability checking. Given a constraint defined by an s-DNNF circuit, we can create a propagator for the constraint by decomposing the circuit using a Tseitin transformation. But this introduces many additional Boolean variables, and hides the structu...
متن کاملEfficient Conflict Analysis for Finding All Satisfying Assignments of a Boolean Circuit
Finding all satisfying assignments of a propositional formula has many applications to the synthesis and verification of hardware and software. An approach to this problem that has recently emerged augments a clause-recording propositional satisfiability solver with the ability to add “blocking clauses.” One generates a blocking clause from a satisfying assignment by taking its complement. The ...
